Innovation Academy Science
Chemistry Unit:
In preparation for our 8th grade MEA-Science assessments next week, we're taking a short break from our work in the PBIS: Energy book to look at some introductory Chemistry.  We're doing some work out of Chapter 3 of our old Physics books to learn about the 3 states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases.  We'll learn how the particles of each move, and the affect this has on their physical properties.  Students are creating 3-Panel Flip notes which the'll use to prepare for an assessment over this learning.  Next Up: We'll look at how matter can be classified into Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures.

Targets for This Trimester
Students will be able to:

-describe several different types of energy forms including heat, chemical, and mechanical.

-use examples of energy transformations from one form to another to explain that energy cannot be created or destroyed.

-describe how heat is transferred from one object to another by conduction, convection, and/or radiation.

-describe the properties of solar radiation and its interaction with objects on Earth.
